If you’re in e-commerce or own an online shop, Pinterest is your best friend, and if it’s not, it should be! Pinterest users are eager to shop, eager to buy and eager to spend MORE than on any other platform. Unlike Facebook and Instagram, these users are scrolling to shop. You’re not interrupting their feed, they WANT you to market to them. Sound too good to be true? Well don’t take my word for it, here are some insane stats about Pinterest.
- 93% of Pinners use Pinterest to plan purchases
- Pinners spend 29% more than those who don’t use Pinterest
- Pinterest reaches 83% of ALL U.S. women aged 25-54
- 55% of Pinners are looking specifically for products
I won’t say it’s easy to market on Pinterest, but it is pretty simple. You just have to spend the time setting up the foundation and then executing, but it’s always very worth it! We recently signed a new Pinterest client One newer client went from 190 monthly views to 13,000 in a little over a week after we took over! That’s huge!
So today I would love to show you how to get your Pinterest up and going the right way. We need the right tools and foundation to really use Pinterest effectively. So let’s get started!
1. Get awesome photos of your products. Pinterest is a HIGHLY visual platform. You need to have professional pictures of your product. Great photos that will make people stop in their tracks when they see it. It’s an investment to be sure, but one that will definitely pay off in the long run. Once you have great photos make sure they are available on each product page.
2. Start a blog. This might seem like a weird step, but a blog will give you a place to create content that is both interesting to your audience and a chance to promote your product in an organic way. You don’t need to post every day but a couple of times a month will be just fine. Think of how-to articles, FAQs, trends and ideas that are related to your store and create content around these ideas. You could do a round-up of Christmas gifts for moms, a Spring trend list or a DIY using your product. Anything that is going to get people clicking over from Pinterest. Keep in mind, Pinterest is a search engine, so think of ideas around these terms and phrases that people are searching in.
3. Get Rich Pins. Have you heard of “rich pins”? Here’s the definition ”
Rich Pins show metadata right on the Pin itself, giving Pinners a richer experience and increasing engagement. Information in a Rich Pin is independent of the Pin description, ensuring that important information is always tied to the Pin. There are 4 types of Rich Pins: app, article, product and recipe Pins.”
Basically, this means that if you pin a product and then change the price, the price on the pin will automatically be changed as well. It will also increase your reach and success as rich pins tend to get more engagement and traffic than other pins. The process is a bit technical, but it should be easy enough for whoever handles your website. Here’s a great article about adding rich pins to your site.
4. Learn Your Keywords. Just like with SEO, keywords are the foundation of Pinterest. People go to Pinterest to search, and you want to make sure everything you pin is optimized for their searching, especially your products. Spend some time researching your keywords, make a list and then routinely monitor them and keep track of the ones that perform well. It’s easy to search these in Pinterest itself!
5. Optimize boards and pins. Go through your current Pinterest account and delete any boards that don’t fit in with your brand. You want your boards to fit the lifestyle of your customer, so not all of them will be directly related to your product, but they should all be something that the person who would buy your product would be interested in. For example, if you sell organic herbal tea, you could have boards for organic dinner recipes, yoga or teacups.
